Future ConsiderationsSubmitted by Pavlos Skoufis on Tue, 2006-09-26 23:26.
Since the proposed system is entirely based on Open-Source software which is cross-platform compatible, there are many ways in which it can be expanded to provide functionality offered by other similar commercial software. The OpenLDAP directory server can be distributed across multiple physical servers using the referral functionality which is built-in, each of which will be able to act as an independent unit or load-balance an existing one. Since OpenLDAP is cross-platform compatible, if the company decides to add Windows-based web hosting services in the future, this can be accommodated without major architectural changes on the schema. In addition, theoretically, any application can be configured to operate using data from OpenLDAP. Similarly to the way the ordering system was introduced – which has a MySQL database backend – business management functionality can be introduced by developing applications which are specifically developed for web hosting companies. |
